Nevada Teacher Licensure and Renewal Process – Step-by-Step Guide
- Register through OPAL
Start by registering through the Online Portal for Application and Licensure (OPAL). You will receive email and text notifications as your application moves through the process. - Complete Application Requirements
Fill out the self-disclosure questions and submit all necessary documents as outlined in the application. - Pay the Required Fees
Make your payment through OPAL. - Complete Background Check and Fingerprinting
Once you’ve met all OPAL requirements, you’ll receive an email with instructions for your background check and fingerprinting. Bring this email receipt and a government-issued ID to iPride Notary, Fingerprinting & Apostilles. We offer Live Scan electronic fingerprinting for direct submission to the NV Department of Public Safety and FBI, or you can opt for fingerprints on an FBI form FD-258 card (or equivalent) for submission to the Nevada Department of Education.
Note: You may need to complete fingerprint background checks twice—once for your state license and again for the school or district where you are employed—because these agencies cannot share criminal history information.

Yes, we offer both Live Scan electronic fingerprinting and traditional fingerprint cards. While the Nevada Department of Education (NDOE) recommends Live Scan, we can provide fingerprint cards, which you can send or drop off to the Department Board.
No. The NDOE only accepts Live Scan submissions from Nevada. If you live in another state and are applying for licensure in Nevada, you will need to submit a fingerprint card.
Your fingerprints are sent to both the FBI and the Nevada Department of Public Safety, which will process your prints and send the criminal history reports back to the NDOE.
The Department estimates that it can take up to eight weeks to process your license. Live Scan submissions typically yield faster results than fingerprint cards and reduce the risk of cards being lost in the mail.
